The aim of this thesis is to present a survey of the types of women that transgress in Old Icelandic mythological and heroic texts, their reasons for doing so, and the ways in which they do it. As I believe that this has not been looked at before, I hope this research will be of use to further study of the role of women in the fornaldarsogur.
