Christian Yao is a Senior Lecturer in Human Resource Management. He is also the Academic Programme Leader of the Master of Global Business. Prior to his appointment at Victoria University of Wellington, Christian held a Postdoctoral Fellowship in the School of Management, Massey University in Auckland. He holds editorial positions in serval international journals.
Christian focuses on researching global careers and expatriation, with particular expertise in conducting cross-cultural studies. Christian’s work has been published in impactful academic journals such as the International Journal of Human Resource Management, the International Journal of Management Reviews and Career Development International. His recent research on self-initiated repatriation received the Academy of Management (AOM) Careers Division Best International Paper Award in 2017. His research on the intelligent career of Chinese expatriates also received the AOM Best International Paper Finalist Award in 2015.
