Christian is Assoc Prof in Tourism Management and Chair of Principles of Responsible Management Education (UNPRME) Steering Committee at faculty level. His research interests cover three broad areas. Firstly, he is interested in sustainable tourism development and tourism’s interrelationship with climate change. This has seen him engaged in research projects in the Sub-Antarctic, South America, the Pacific and NZ. Secondly, he studies the ‘youth’ life stage in the context of travel, exploring aspects such as self-development of young travellers and long-term youth mobility practices in different cultures; this led to fieldwork in Central America, South East Asia and Europe. Christian’s third research interest evolved from merging the above two research themes which resulted in research in education for sustainability, which includes a strong interest in pedagogies for sustainability as well as a passion for research-driven VR innovation which led to two international education awards.
