What is beyond our imagination? How can we extend our dreams and transform them into physical reality?

‘Uncanny Bastards’ aims to provoke the creative process of the designer/director and the performance of the actor within the film industry.

This research examines the latest tools in artificial intelligence (AI) and multi-material 3D printing (MMP). It explores how they can act as a catalyst for cognitive expansion and promote unpredictability for film industry members who work in the design and conception processes.

A defining element of this research is the documentation of how highly refined and heterogeneous physical artefacts achieved only through multi-material 3D printing (MMP) can manifest the uniquely generated AI designs.

These computer generate dobjects (CGO) are then defined in orchestrated scenarios that inspire genuine and raw acting responses. The implementation of co-authorship with external mediums creates a cohesivere presentation of the research motives in all aspects of the film industry process.

The outcomes of the research highlight the importance of innovation in all aspects of the film industry; doing so will create a rich and compelling experience for those both in front and behind the camera.
