This research proposal aims to investigate the influence of effective mātauranga Māori initiatives on the well-being of taiohi (youth aged 16-24) in the region of Taranaki. Recognising the significance of Indigenous knowledge systems and cultural practices in nurturing the next generation, this study seeks to understand how these initiatives contribute to the overall wellbeing of taiohi. By exploring the specific components and approaches of mātauranga Māori initiatives, this research aims to shed light on their potential to empower taiohi, strengthen their cultural identity, and enhance their overall holistic development. The findings of this study will not only contribute to the existing body of knowledge on Indigenous education and well-being but also provide insights for educators, and community leaders in designing and implementing effective initiatives for taiohi in Taranaki.
