Social media is plagued with examples of inauthenticity. In this paper I define what the existentialists believe authenticity to be, using the examples of Jean-Paul Sartre, Simone de Beauvoir, and Frantz Fanon. I then investigate how we can see inauthenticity on social media, focusing on 3 examples across different platforms, and then, how we can potentially already see some using existentialist authenticity on social media. Through comparing these examples, I demonstrate how the current concept of authenticity is false, and how existentialist authenticity provides a freer, and more equitable internet.
