New Zealand’s journey towards a resale right for visual
artists has been slow and politically fraught. The hastily
negotiated free trade agreement (FTA) between New
Zealand and the United Kingdom has, however, acted as
a deus ex machina to prompt legislative action. The
Resale Right for Visual Artists Act will provide a
state-of-the-art resale right scheme for postcolonial
countries.
